The Pirates of the Caribbean's two initial sequels -- Dead Man's Chest and At World's End -- were widely derided when they came out because we were dumb spoiled babies in the 2000s and didn't realize how bad things would get.

I like this movie but the thing is I never thought about it as a murder mystery or anything "philosophical" I just saw it as will smith being sassy towards robots and some typical American action. It's a good time nothing more nothing less.

People really overact to the pop culture references. I feel like a big theme of the book/movie is pop culture is culture, and the biggest thing tries to separate the two is corporations trying to push it as products. Its people interacting and connecting with experiences and ideas. Yes they aren't lore accurate representations but that's kind a part of the point its individuals interpretations of them, doing what they want with the idea. A big plot point is that all the 80's media has gone into public domain so its easily accessible to everyone, and open to reinterpretation. The whole thing has open source feel were everything is shared and mix and mashed together. Its reaction images and vrchat avatars its not some deep thematic recreation of the original work The writing still is pretty bad though

The title change 💀💀💀. I mean I love it but I’m ngl, it made me think the video would be an exploration into how “gender critical feminism” influenced the way she wrote mystery and the assumptions she played on. THAT would be an interesting video if you’re ever looking for a new idea

Sorry, dude. LOL. But I did cry at "Bicentennial Man," and I think I will continue to cry every time I watch it. I could maybe say it tries a little hard at times, and it's not gonna work for everybody the same way. But I genuinely think it succeeds at what it sets out to do, especially with Robin's incredible likability and sincerity.

I love it when content creators boast about themselves doing something in a joking way that is meant to be self-deprecating - such as joking about watching all those movies for another project, or even this one in a light-hearted way. I love it even more when they look like fucking idiots for pronouncing words like "prelude" as "prell-you'd" in a meager attempt to sound smarter than they actually are, which then completely discredits anything else they have to say, because they literally can't pronounce a VERY simple word. Fucking PRELLYOU'D. HOW MANY MOVIES HAVE YOU WATCHED AN HEARD THAT WORD SAID ALOUD. TONS. Jesus christ. Get over yourself. Only makes me think of how many words you've read over in science fiction, not looked up the pronunciation OR meaning, and just kept moving right along like it never even happened. Bro probably thinks a bulkhead in a spaceship is a physical noggin of a human head.

There’s a funny scene to show how cool Will Smith is for being anti-tech. His radio is playing loud music, and Susan Calvin is shouting at it “Off! End program!” And then Will Smith comes in and smugly presses the off button, and we’re all ‘hahaha dumb future lady.’ What fools we were. This is exactly how I feel nowadays shouting “Alexa! Echo! Siri!” Or when I’m uselessly hitting my phone or credit card on a machine like a caveman.

The thing about Elizabeth being a strong women that's not derided is that she doesn't to do so at the expense of the men around her. Not only that but she and everyone gets to take turns being the badass in the spotlight instead of making it all about her where often the world itself seems to bend in her favor which you can look up Mary Sue to get a better idea on. If you look at the women portrayed where many people don't like her it's often either the girl boss or the Mary Sue both of which can be done well and be done where it doesn't suck. The combination of the toxic girl boss and Mary Sue seems to bring out the most ire.

I think my favorite film that feels inspired by Asimov's works is the anime movie Metropolis. Sure, it's inspired by the original live action movie but the way it portrays robots and the whole detective story that is the main focus just feels more inspired by Asimov. The animation is awesome too.

I disagree. A huge part of the book and JDH was that he wanted people to like the things he liked and obsess over them, especially 80s trivia. And mentioned numerous times in the book was that knowing all that, and knowing JDH was why, for example, WOW was able to get through the 3rd gate before the 6ers. Also, yes there were a few tasks that WOW seemed too familiar with. But if you are judging off of that, did you forget that the game he had to beat for the 3rd gate he was no good at? and that if Arty wasn't there he probably would've failed? These are just a few points of many others I wanted to point out. Everyone can have their opinion. But if you're going to use something as "evidence" then the research needs to be done more thoroughly especially since you try to pass off statements as unbiased. Lastly, you say you like Wonka and the Chocolate Factory because he won because he is the kindest, most moral, most honest... did we skip over the scene where he and grandpa Joe stole some pops they weren't supposed to? It's ok for a character to be flawed.

Honestly, I can only agree to your analysis. The pirate movies were a perfect mix of comedy, action, weirdness, romance and comedy action 😀. Comedy is often created by a situation people very much expect what happens next, but then be surprised that the action turns otherwise. If driven by the main character and accomplished with music supporting this, it's even better. Jack Sparrow was supporting this in the first 3 movies himself because he seemed to act foolishly, but the audience got the impression that he had a certain plan to follow and that made the story really interesting. Also the situations when it seemd there wasn't an escape for him but he found it somehow. Modern movies (the latest one from Marvel are a good example) are often lacking of this. They are fully packed with action and special effects, sometimes even in a way that the audience has barely time to breath - but they feel unsubstancial, generic, uninspired. Creating action comedies are really a kind of art and you are right, Gore Verbinski is one of the rare people having a talent for this. With the first 3 pirate movies, he really gave an example other directors should follow on.

Great video, although I didn't feel Benoit Blanc was as dumb as claimed here, he's just not magically clairvoyant like Sherlock Holmes and Poirot. The only blunder he makes is assuming Marta couldn't be the killer and dragging her along as his "Watson". Otherwise, he was on the right track until Marta destroyed the evidence he was looking for.

Would a novice screenwriter have success with a Rocky like screenplay today? Would a gatekeeper say, "walking down a lonely street again!" and put a rejection stamp on it? Rocky came along at the right time. The U.S. was gearing up for the Bicentennial, but there seemed little to cheer about. A good underdog story was just what the doctor ordered. Another aspect of Rocky was the people he interfaced with, also fell into the "loser" category. How they reacted to Rocky's chance also made Rocky more likeable.
